Design out Crime

Launch of National Search for Designers and Technologists to Create new ways of securing mobile phones against thieves and fraudsters, as research shows that 80% of phones contain data which can be used by criminals to access bank accounts, steal identity, or sell on personal data.

"21st century society loves its gadgets but the cleverer and cooler we make our products, the more they expose us and our children to serious crime such as mugging, identity theft and bank fraud," added David Kester, Chief Executive of The Design Council.

Previous advances in technology have led to unexpected new forms of crime; email heralded the phenomenon of "phishing", ATMs precipitated the new crime of "card catching" and online banking gave rise to "key logging", used by fraudsters to track the input of secret passwords and account numbers. However, there are also many examples of technology being applied successfully to reduce crime - for example, British Crime Survey figures show theft of vehicles has reduced by 51% since 1997 as a result of improved security being designed into the vehicle, and an evaluation of houses built to the ACPO Secured By Design (SBD) standards showed that these experience 26% less crime than non SBD houses, and residents fear of crime is lower.

http://www.prisonexp.org/
I have bumped into a very interesting topic while I was doing a research about "what principles the sale industry uses to change the social reality" a documentary done by Philip Zimbardo who is a professor of psychology in Stanford University. This is an experiment done by his team in 1971. Very interesting experiment to reach out so many questions and answers in psycological behaviour .. that the power of situations to determine human behavior.. which is oursourced of the film "Das Experiment" in 2001.

crisis of credit

http://www.crisisofcredit.com/
A thesis project done by Jonathan Jarvis, former student at Art Center College of Art in CA.
The goal of giving form to a complex situation like the credit crisis is to quickly supply the essence of the situation to those unfamiliar and uninitiated. very interesting way to visualize and change the complex data into a simpler form.

mindwalk

Mindwalk is a 1990 filmdirected by Bernt Capra, based on his own short story, based in turn on the book The turning point by his brother Fritjof Capra, the author of the book The Tao of Physics. The movie is centered among three characters: a Norwegian scientist, an American politician and poet Thomas Harriman. as they wander around Mont Saint Michel, France. The movie serves as an introduction to systems theory and systems thinking, while insights into modern physical theories such as quantum mechanics and particle physics are also given. Political and social problems, and alternative solutions for them, are another major focus of the film. However, specific problems and solutions are not the main focus; rather, different perspectives are presented through which these problems can be viewed and considered.
